Fan fiction for Clash of the Titans (Medusa's Solitude)

This is my version of the scene of Perseus entering and while being in Medusa's Lair.

Medusa's Solitude

Evening in the Temple of Medusa

In a dark and diverge entrance, the place was lit with broken cascades of cold sky light from caved and cracked portions of the roof. Toppled pillars and walls. Stone debris and broken columns on the ground.

Draco and Perseus walked through blindly through the mess. Perseus steps over what he believes to be a pile of dust and rubbles. A petrified corpse, grey and porous flesh and fingers curled excruciating. Everywhere there were bodies of men locked in cowering moments of pure soul-stripping horror. All the fragile statues had hollow eye sockets and crumbles easily like flake dusts. Silence in the air. A silhouette- MEDUSA...

A head of hissing hair and a woman's torso, crawling, savage, on her hands, dragging, waist-down, the slinking tail of a rattlesnake.

She lurks thru pools of shade and light, baring charcoal scale head-to-tail shedding in dry flaking tatters, hair of snakes, hissing and striking one another. Medusa hisses showing her forked tongue.

Perseus and Draco on opposite sides of the room dare not make any sound. They turn very slowly, weapons always up and ready. Medusa stealthily circles Draco. He listens to the rasping of scales on the stone.

DRACO

Perseus, I hear her!

She coils and surrounds Draco without touching him.

DRACO (continued)

She's over here. I think I've got her.

Her torso safely behind him, she lures her tail in front.

She RATTLES it, loudly.

Draco spins and slices the air towards the sound. The RATTLE

Stops suddenly. A relieved smile on Draco's face.

Draco sees just the tail before him. Startled and not thinking, he instinctively looks behind.

PERSEUS

(Sensing her strategy)

Draco don't!

Draco sees Medusa. His eyes widen and his muscles lock. His flesh scorches, shrivelling close to his bones. Draco’s body started to harden to scabrous pumice-stone. Medusa seems to get a high from the vapour of the drying ash corpse. She succumbs to a brief but euphoric shudder. She eyes Perseus, hungry.

Perseus shakes and breathes very hard, losing it. His heart pounds harder and harder, jerks at the slightest sounds and he makes sure that he holds his shield close. At first, Medusa doesn't seem to be anywhere around him.

Perseus gradually steps back. Until he bumps into a column. He jolts with fear, but he quickly steadies himself. On the column above, Medusa clings, her snake body coiled tight around the top. She slowly crawls down towards the base of the column. Closing into Perseus.

Yet Perseus insists on keeping his back flush against the column- a false security blanket. Above, Medusa reaches slowly for his blindfold with the meticulous patience of a snake. She pulls the knot out. The blindfold falls. Perseus instantly lowers his head and squeezes his eyes closed.

He slashes the air in front of him. He rakes the sword back to one side. Nothing. He sweeps the other side.

Nothing. Where is she?

Slithering sound slowly mixed with a moan, Medusa speaks

MEDUSA

Please apologize for my behaviour. (With a grin in her tone)

PERSEUS

Where are you and why should I believe you!

Yelling on the top of his lungs

PERSEUS

You have killed so many men, is this one of your tricks?

Medusa drags herself to the other side of the room on top of the toppled columns.

MEDUSA

No, I know why you are here. (Slightly pain and tear in her voice)

You are here to kill me, to slay Hades son. Kraken.

PERSEUS

I am here to slay you to help the citizen of Argos!

Perseus steps back with his sword up to his shoulder, closes his eyes and turns his back and swings his sword, slicing the thin air. Dust flying. Perseus reins in his panicked breath. He listens and thinks, he cracks his eyes and peers down into the basin of his shield. His darting eyes find a patch of polished bronze.

Above, unseen, Medusa nears. Her hair of snakes tenses and focuses on Perseus. They coil for the strike, to startle him into turning around. Medusa settles again and slowly hisses and speaks.

MEDUSA

I just wanted to be able to speak to someone like I did years ago!

To be talked to, to laugh with someone one, be touched.....

And be looked to in the eyes...

Hearing the sadness and frustration in her voice.

MEDUSA

I have been on my own (medusa sobs) for many years!

(She started screaming, crying and slithering up and down the broken columns)

Perseus angles the shield to reflect behind. No Medusa.

He tilts the shield to see above. He watches the scrap of

Scenery glides over the slash of burnished metal.

MEDUSA

What have I done so wrong to deserve this?

All this years you call me the monster!

She hisses and yells

I AM THE VICTIM! Always been and always will be. Cries

PERSEUS

Let us calm down Medusa, I have heard your story.

I cannot say that I feel your pain, but Medusa we can re write history. I will tell the events that happened here. What you really are. Just like us, everybody else. Wanting to be talked to. Companionship.

MEDUSA

I cannot trust anyone, NO ONE! But tell me this demi god. Do you keep your word to spreading my real story to the world?

As Medusa slithers down from the column and drags herself towards Perseus. She moved very close to Perseus, behind him.

MEDUSA

Don’t turn around just yet. I want to end my horrid life. I cannot take this lonely and dreary so called life of mine.

Perseus feels the cold shiver knowing she is behind him, holding his sword up towards his face with his eyes closed shut.

PERSEUS

Take my word Medusa, you alone can save hundreds and thousands of people. (Shaking) Do this, I will end your horrid life and you will die to me and for everyone else with commendation.

MEDUSA

You are as what they say, trustworthy.

Goodbye, Perseus, Demi God.. Save Argon.

Perseus shuts his eyes and wheels around to cut. A soft FTHMMP as the blade slices thru something... A fractional silence. Perseus holds his breath. His eyes dart again to the reflection to look at the shadow that still looms. He still feels her presence.

But suddenly, Medusa's head thuds and rolls on the ground. The headless reflection topples over, she is dead.

PERSEUS

I will spread your real story. Goodbye, beautiful maiden.

Perseus looks at Medusa head on the ground.

Medusa’s face was beautiful, she died with a smile.

The Big Bang Theory

THE PIE CRUST EXERCISE

In this fanfic the usually socially awkward Sheldon and happy-go-lucky Penny are in a relationship - a completely absurd idea in Big Bang Theory Canon.This piece was pleasant but I found myself reading to the end more to see if there was a main point rather than reading out of enjoyment. The author relies mainly on dialogue, which is acceptable considering that the original is a television show, and in my mind the exchange between the characters is feasible but not exciting. However, a lot of the dialogue is wasted on Sheldon’s scientifically superfluous vocabulary but lacks any comedy and comes off rather mediocre.

Scrubs

JD ENCOUNTERS THE JANITOR

A short, simple fanfiction. The author really seems to understand the genre of writing of Scrubs however the piece seems to be as if it is taken from a scene within the series – either some good writing or a spot of plagiarism. Although short, I enjoyed the characterisation and that the author allows the reader to see into JD’s thoughts (as is done in the canon). The engagement of the characters between each other is done really well too. In this fanfic, JD is out grocery shopping but encounters his arch enemy – The Janitor! Written from JD’s perspective, the piece is comical but very conservative in any deviation from the series.

Mean Girls

WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO TAYLOR

Extremely limited and short. This fanfic is a short thought of the beginning of a story. Taylor – a non descript character in the film – was asked out by Jason in order to make Gretchen Weiners (who is one of The Plastics) jealous. It is from the view of a typical teenage girl and highlights very basically a few of the trials they have to deal with in the modern world like teen pregnancy, cliques, jealousy and the never-ending saga of boys. Well written, but doesn’t continue into a greater main point/body so one is left one a high point with no closure. Hopefully the author will continue her story!

Nottinghill

IN THE SUNSHINE

As a self-confessed romantic, this was simply beautiful! Taken from Nottinghill, this fanfic is about an intimate moment between the main characters, William and Anna. The reader is invited into the personal thoughts, the motion and emotions of William and can empathise with his love for Anna and the pain that comes with it. It is sensual and elegant. At the end, the additional notes given by the writer correlate to the theme within the text and appear to be based upon the song ‘Ain’t No Sunshine’ sung in the movie by Bill Withers and then later the Lighthouse family. Although this piece is not a ‘beginning-to-end’ story, the writer has given enough detail to place the scene in context without the reader feeling as if some information is missing. It’s a piece one can read even if they have not seen the film. Skilfully written and adept in description; there are minimal grammatical and spelling errors – a pleasure to read.

The Time Traveler's Wife

THE TIME TRAVELER'S WIFE

This fanfic was written on The Time Traveller’s Wife by Audrey Niffeneger, one of my favourite stories. However, to read this piece was a complete waste of time. The piece goes around Clare accusing Henry of being unfaithful while time travelling and soon turns into a tacky soap opera. To be honest, although it was only a page long, I didn’t finish reading it – it is that bad. With no specific title, awful spelling and an appalling story line, I wondered why the author even bothered to write the piece. Whilst reading, I got the feeling that the author was mocking the original canon rather than being a ‘fan’ contrary to what the word ‘fanfiction’ suggests. However, I will admit to the author having some imagination – mentioning ‘McDonalds hamburger bakers’ not to mention SpongeBob, Squidward and Frodo Baggins as well as what I think is a reference to Sharon Osbourne. Despite this, it still remains a vile representation of fanfiction.

The Time Traveler's Wife

TIME ENOUGH

Another beautifully romantic fanfic! Yes, I am such a sap! This piece is an add-on to the ending of The Time Traveller’s Wife. At the end of the book Clare has grown old but is visited by Henry one last time: he comes from the past. Clare has waited years and years to see her lover after his sudden death. In the original text Henry visits the old Clare and then returns to his present, leaving Clare alone and yearning. But in this text written by Adela H, Henry is holding his elderly Clare as she breathes her last breath. After such a compelling story, I felt the ending left the reader unsettled with a sense of longing yet this fanfic gives the closure the reader needs – this is echoed in the many of the reviews of this piece. There are a few errors in spelling but not enough to subtract from the story – written in the first person as Henry DeTamble. This short text looks as if it could be a part of the original – if it wasn’t the ending I would be left wanting more!

As Told By Ginger

RUSTY HALO

An endearing introductory text to As Told By Ginger three years later. All the characters of Lucky Senior High have grown up and are in their senior year. Ginger and Darren are an item with Macey and Dodie in tow. The text fits the genre of the original cartoon and would correlate within the early teen audience (making me a bit too old to want to read this...). This piece circles around friendships, relationships and the stress of graduating and college applications. Its written from the third person but includes basic and limited descriptions. The title is Rusty Halo but I am unsure as to how it is relevant to the content of the piece. Ultimately this is a mediocre piece of fanfic – not a lot to be said.

27 Dresses

MY NUMBER ONE FAN

A sugary moment set after the wedding of Jane and Kevin in the movie 27 Dresses where Kevin discovers a scrapbook of his writing that Jane has kept over the years – even from before they met. A fairly average piece of work. Nothing really stand out about it for me but perhaps of the writer continued the train of thought it may develop into something more interesting. Written well from Kevin’s perspective, the writer is descriptive and really opens the character of Kevin to the reader. However, I found the story unsatisfying and requires something more.

The Princess Diaries

I HAVE A TWIN

:) As gripping as Princess Diaries can get. As the title suggests Princess Mia has a twin sister. Written in the same style of the canon by Meg Cabot, this author incorporates IM dialogue and diary entries from Mia. A few minor spelling errors and very simple to read, one is able to follow the story-line easily however I find the lack of description really bland – the text relies on the dialogue and report style diary entries ending in a lot of ‘he-said-then-she-said’ type of writing. However, the storyline has a definite twist as it continues through the nine chapters. A fun, playful representation of fanfic.

Pride & Prejudice/Gossip Girl

YOU KNOW YOU LOVE ME

A Gossip Girl and Pride and Prejudice crossover was sure to be entertaining! The author successfully managed to blend the glamour of the series and the class of the original 1813 classic by Jane Austen. The piece covered the beginning of the story where Charles Bingley and company move into

Netherfields – in this case, New York – and everyone attends a local ball (in this case a benefit party). True to all the events that occurred at the social event, this fan fic adds in some glamour, glitter and of course gossip. A high standard of writing from the third person – and some comments from Gossip Girl herself – it is an easy-read with the genre appealing to a wide audience.

With a full storyline, the author

has completed two chapters to date and will hopefully see the project through to its happy ending!

God of War

• Kratos vs. Heracles/Hercules

  This is a great game, the story line was well presented and it gives gamers interest to follow and learn more about greek mythology. This fanfic was a story of Kratos and Heracles (he was actually called Hercules in the game) showing off their might and strength to the crowd to prove who was the strongest and the mightiest. Both of them comparing what they have killed, slayed, captured and what other things they are capable of doing with their strength. This Fanfic story showed that from the beginning of the strength test both of them seem to tie up. Though Hercules was more bigger compare to Kratos, to me it seems that Kratos's agility and speed can beat Hercules in any day. In the end after killing and slaying and finishing the tasks at the same time, the old man decided that they should just fight each other.
  
  Kratos and Hercules end up fighting each other and in the end Hercules died after Kratos used the Chronos effect to kill Hercules. I thought that the story was well laid out, though the character of Kratos in this fanfic story was not as cocky, enraged and angry as he would have been in the actual game. The way Kratos ended Hercules life was a bit too quick as if Hercules was not able to block Kratos Chronos move. They are both strong and capable of fighting well. I thought the fight description before he ended Hercules could have been dragged out a little bit more since from the beginning of the story that both have been equally fast and finished to a tie to every single challenges given by the old man to both of them.


• The Final reflections of the Ghost of Sparta

  This fanfic was based on Kratos reflection after the war while he lays the ground of Mount Olympus with a big gaping hole in chest. The world was dead while he slowly fades away. The world was dark and died due to his sought for vengeance to the Gods. Kratos wondered, if he was to die as a god since he was named the God of War or was he to die as a mortal just like when he was born a mortal. Kratos reflected to what has happened and to how this all started, him selling himself to the Gods and tricked him to murdering his own family for this was the reason he wanted all the gods killed. He even used the titans to get to the Gods, even mother earth Gaia was a casualty for his thirst for the blood of the gods. No god was able to kill him, but in the end he finds himself getting killed by his own mortal hands.
  
  I thought this fanfic was very well done. It was soo moving to how much trouble Kratos went through to get vegeance for himself by getting tricked by the gods to murder his family. I felt that, no mortal or god could kill Kratos for his revenge sought was so strong that this was his will that kept him over confident and alive. Though it was sad to just kill himself in the end, all the hard work he went through in the end was just for himself. it did not occur to him for a second of what he was killing and who was dying. hi revenge blinded him to whats the reality. World grew colder and darker as the people die around Kratos. the reflection was good, it gives you a good visual for the conclusion of the game (after all the missions and killings).


• Titan of war

  In the God of War III game, Kratos was still the God of War while he marches to Mt Olympus with all the Titans to start the ancient war all over again with the Gods. In the end, not only he ended up killing the Gods, He also killed Gaia and Cronos his own grand father which he believed tricked and used him just to get close to the Gods and the Olympians. In this fanfic, all was well, the revenge Kratos seeked was fulfilled and so is the freedom that the Titans longed and fought for from the Gods. After Kratos killing his own father Zeus, the Titans fulfilled their promise made to Kratos to make him Titan of War. In the fanfic, all the Titans was there to turn Kratos into Titan of war. The story mentioned that with the fall of the gods that the every, man, gods and titans are free to make their own destiny. I thought it was a bit superficial how everything in this fanfic story world was perfect and not seems to be dead or destroyed after the process of killing all the Gods. In the game, the amount of damage and the cause of the death of men was due to the plague that the gods released after dying from the hands of Kratos. And in all this, the death of the gods left the world darkened and ruined from the aftermath of the fights. In the process, Kratos character in this fanfic doesn't seem to be cautious at all to what the Titans wanted him to do. Kratos character in the game was more cautious and doesn't let anyone uses him for other cause that will delay him or stop him from killing the gods. Its Kratos Vengeance not the Titans, so i dont think Kratos would have accepted this honour.


• Looking Down

  Zeus, had a fear that he never thought was going to be cast upon him. Kratos has killed Persephone, Ares, the sisters of Fate, and Athena. He could easily kill all the Gods and this was his intention. When Zeus told the others that this was indeed the greatest threat that Olympus had ever faced, this was a serious matter. This fanfic focussed more on Zeus fear knowing that his own son Kratos was on his wat with the Titans to kill him. Visions of his death lying on the ground while Kratos looks upon him made him worry and thought that this day was never to come, but here is his son gazing up to him.
  
  This fanfic was poorly made, it was more of a story of what has already happened in the game when the Titans and Kratos on Gaia's Back heading to Mt Olympus to attack the Gods in the Beginning of the game of God of war III. The story lacked the originality and added a shorten ellaboration of what Zeus thoughts were while the Kratos and the Titans head up to start the ancient war all over again.
  


• Battle of the Hydra

  This fanfic is a short poem about the battle of Kratos and how he defeated the Hydra. It showed a good short description about the beast itself and what strength it posess and what other beast it can summon while at battle. Short yet descriptive and very effective. It could have been a little bit more descriptive to how Kratos killed the Hydra. All in all well laid out.
  

Clash of the Titans

• Andromeda's Angst

  First of all, I love this movie, not only it reminds me of the game God of War but also makes me more interested towards the Greek mythlogy. This fanfic was how Andromeda felt after getting saved by the demigod Perseus from the Kraken. Andromeda, fell for Perseus, selflessness, heroism, fearlessness and compasion towards helping others in need. She saw herself wanting him, she thought that it was love at first sight when they looked each other in the eyes. Though the feelings was not mutual for Perseus, Andromeda thought that he would have made a great king and her by his side, but when he said that the boats came for her and said that he did not want to be a king, her heart broke slowly. She felt jealousness seeing him and Io together, Io as his wife.
  
  I thought that this was very good story. It portrayed what Andromeda's thoughts and wanted from Perseus that we could not see in detail in the actual movie. Although Perseus would have made a great King, I believe that he made a good decision to stay biased and live life with Io as he wanted it to be. Io was the closest living person he can call his friend and family. He truely did love her. On Andromeda's behalf, I thought that she only fell inlove with his quality and just because he saved her. I would have felt the same if I was her, but if Perseus heart is meant to be for someone else, I will let it be as long as he is happy.
  



• I Must go down to the Seas Again

  This fanfic was a remake of the ending of the movie, Perseus fate as a demi god was never easy. Perseus want to live his life, just like his mortal father as a fisherman, but him and everybody knows that he is more than a man and is capable of doing more. Perseus lived an honest life. He did what he had to do to help others. Although he was given the option to live as a god with Zeus after defeating Hades and the Kraken, he still chose to go back and live his life just like his mortal father. I thought that he made the right decision, why change and live a new life that you are not accustomed to, when everything you learned and lived for is where you wanted to be. But Perseus will always have his father, Zeus to watch over him and he live his life as a man with the love of his life and his family, Io.
  



• After Death

This fanfic was very touching I love it. It describe what Io felt after she died outside Medusa's lair. She has lived long enough but the only last thought she could remember was Perseus looking upon her saying that he was not going to leave her side. I always wondered what happened to Io after she died, since she was ageless always thought what was to happened to her in the afterlife. Io was brought to Olympus when she passed, this was the last place she expected herself to be. Io was watching over the events below, seeing what Perseus is doing, killing the Kraken and defeating Hades, she felt proud but empty. She spent most of her life overseeing Perseus grow up. Io didnt find herself to be in Olympus after death. She spoke to Zeus, told him to what and why Perseus declines to be wiith and be treated as a god. No one else knew and understand Perseus well other than Io and his passed parents, but what he wanted was what Io wanted. It was nice how they both want to live as mortal men when they have to opportunity to be gods. After all, it is what they have been brought up as and what they are accustomed of and they are proud and happy to be mortals. As Zeus brought Io back for Perseus, I thought that this was a everlasting love and understanding for each other that they have between them two. I also like the last sentence of Io "For the first time in my existence, I found my place." It was very sweet.

• Stronger than a Demigod

  The fanfic story was about a girl inlove in search for Draco the General in the lair of Medusa. She was a woman who went into the lair where all women are forbidden to enter it. She slayed Medusa with no hesitation and left Perseus with his mouth wide open out of astonishment to what she just did. She was in search for the general and found the stone piece of the general on the ground. This fanfic was ok, she thought that since this character died and that she disowned her gender claiming she was her own species that she would have been more stronger than the Demigod Perseus. This story for me was a bit overrated, I believed that unless she was a god or an olympian or some witch that she could not just disowned her gender because for looks and as how the gods and everybody else would still see her as a woman. Maybe, this story could have started a bit earlier explaining how one gender disown their own gender and be their own species without the help from the gods?!


• Not with Me

  This fanfic was about Io not meant to be with Perseus, even though they declared their love to each other, Io knew that Perseus was destined to be with Andromeda to rule Argos together. I thought that even though Io said that he loved Perseus just as a friend that she just said that so Perseus can be with Andromeda, for she needed him more than Io did. Perseus was a little confuse, although in the end he thought that Io was right. As long as Io is by his side as guidance and family, he is happy. I think that Perseus and Io does love each other, this could end possibly end up as a forbidden love. They could be both in denial and Perseus just agreeing with Io telling him to be with another woman since they can't fight fate/destiny. I still think that they would have been better of to be together. both of them wanting to live as mortals.

Fanfic Reviews

THE IMAGINARIUM OF DOCTOR PARNASSUS

Salvation
I watched this movie recently and fell in love with it. The storyline as well as the characters are very complex but eveything is woven together to create an imaginative and entertaining story. It is about a group of sideshow performers, Doctor Parnassus, his daughter Valentina, his assistant Anton and the midget Percy, who claim that by stepping through the magic mirror audiences can travel to the Imaginarium, an imaginary world within the mind of Doctor Parnassus, where their dreams can come true. This particular piece of fanfiction explores the story of one of the minor characters, Sal. In the movie she is taken by Anton, who is desperate to show up the new addition to the troupe, Tony. He forces her through the mirror, but we do not see where she goes within the imaginarum, only where she ends up when she comes out.
This fanfic tells what happens to Sal when she goes into the Imaginarium, and explores her feelings of fear and desperation. She doesn't see her dreams come true, as she was forced into the mirror. When she comes out she is snatched up by the devil aka Mr.Nick who has a competition going with Doctor Parnassus to see who can be the first to claim five souls.
I enjoyed reading this piece, it was very descriptive and created a great picture of Sal's jouney through the imaginarium, and how she was seduced by the devil, who easily claimed her soul. Her feelings were portrayed well, especially as she was confronted by Mr.Nick. I found myself encouraging her not to listen to him, even though I alreay knew her soul would be claimed.


STARDUST

Starchild
I have never read the Stardust book but have seen the movie, and quite enjoyed the story. This piece takes place after the end of the book, when Tristan and Yvaine are king and queen. Yvaine wakes up to find that her husband is not with her, and she later finds out from a pageboy Thomas, that he has been injured in a hunting accident at which point she faints. I found that I didn't really enjoy this piece of fanfiction. A lot of the story didn't make sense because of lack of editing. I couldn't quite picture the new characters as there wasn't a lot of description of them save for their roles in the story. The author writes that Yvaine likes these new characters but I did not get a sense of why she did. Even for a short piece it did not flow very well and the ending where Yvaine faints is a bit overdramatic, and does not keep with her character. I did not get the the sense of urgency that Yvaine would have been feeling, and though I think the author was trying to convey it, it did not not quite work.


SHREK

Fit for a servant
I really enjoyed reading this. It lacked the comedy that is associated with the Shrek movies but it was still great to read. The story focuses on Gwendolyn who was not part of the movies, but also includes Artie from the third movie-he is now king- and mentions Fiona.Shrek, Donkey and Puss make a short appearance later in the piece. It was a very descriptive piece, especially in terms of the character descriptions and I could easily picture the story in my minds eye. It wasn't over descriptive, but gave me just enough to go on to create my own image of the story. The characters could be easily related to, and I was routing for Gwendolyn, who is a a sickly maid to the king. The interaction between Gwendolyn and Mauricesa, another servant in the palace, is sweet to watch as, Mauricesa acts as a mother figure to Gwendolyn. Also the glimpse of the relationship between Gwendolyn and Artie foreshadows a romance, and I'm a sucker for romance! I really wanted to see what would happen next.


NEVERENDING STORY

My Dream Luck Dragon
Awesome! The Neverending Story movies were some of my favourite movies when I was younger. They're mysterious and action packed, and this fanfic did not dissapoint. It definitely drew me in. Readers are introduced to new characters in this first chapter of the story. Only the bookshop owner is familiar, but the story still has the mystifying feeling which is created by the movies. The story sees Alice go back to the bookstore where she had first found the Neverending story book. She doesn't want to find it again but the book calls to her and through its magic she is entreated by the voices of her friends from the world of the book to save them. The author created a pleasing picture of the bookstore and of the old character Mr. Coriander. The descriptions create a vivid scene but still hold intrigue, which is the best part of the original books and the movies. It was almost like I was in the bookstore with Ali.


ALICE IN WONDERLAND

This Time No Let Love Grow
Really cute! this was a sweet light hearted story of Alice and the Mad Hatter. In this piece the White Queen holds a ball in honour of Alice's one month return to Underland. In spending time together at the ball the Hatter and Alice discover they have feelings for each other deeper than their close friendship. There was lots of light humour and I found myself smiling the whole way through. It wasn't cheesy but it was still romantic. The language of the story, which was kind of formal, and the descriptions of the wonderous world of Underland, transported me "down the rabbit hole" into the world Alice and the Hatter live in; an old kingdom with many mysterious wonders. The author used a few of the descriptions and phrases from the movie, so I wasn't confused when I was reading the story. I felt like I could be watching a scene right out of the movie. The lyrics at the beginning and end of the piece tie in perfectly with the story and are a nice touch.

EVERNIGHT

Nightmare
This was kind of a disappointment. The author did nothing to recreate the world of Evernight. I felt like I was just thrust into the middle of the story with no clue about any of the important details like the setting, and what the heck was going on! It moved through so fast without descriptions of any sort. It could have been a whole new story with no connection to the Evernight book aside from then mentioning of the name of the main character Bianca. I didn't want a fullblown description of the colour of the paint on the walls or anything like that, but some kind of descriptive language could have helped me picture what was going on. I think the author was just trying to get to the climax, so there was no build up and a lack of suspense that would have helped push the story along and made it more interesting. To me it was just about young modern woman who is on her way to her a wedding and gets kidnapped, much like a what would happen in a soap opera, and not in the story of Evernight where everything is intriguing and complex.

REIGN OF FIRE
Dark World

Dark World
Reign of Fire is one of my favourite movies.This was a great piece of fanfic. The narrative developed really well and though the only character mentioned from the movie is Creedy, it still had the dark ominous feel of the film. I really loved the voice of the main character, a blind girl on her own in the midst of a dragon infested world. It was a great idea to have readers experience the story from her point of view. It is unique but in a way also makes her more relatable. She has a sharp wit which is also endearing. Though the author has only written the first chapter of their fanfic the story has developed quite a bit so far. Readers are already introduced to a number of characters within one paragraph, but it is done seamlessly. The setting is describe effectively, which seems difficult as the main character is blind, but I could easily picture the scene in my mind. This is definitely one that I would want to read further.


VAN HELSING

The Cure
Really imaginative! I loved this fanfic. In this piece Anna does not die like in the movie, but Van Helsing in his werewolf form bites her, infecting her with the curse of the werewolf. He has to set out on a mission to find a cure for Anna and save her from the same fate he had to endure. The story evovles nicely over the nine chapters, and with each the build up gets more intense. Will Van Helsing suvive his mission? Willl he be able to cure Anna? Its all extremely exciting and I appluad the author for being so creative as well as writing the story in such a great way. The sort of old fashioned, formal language takes me straight back to the dark supernatural world of Van Helsing and the story incorporates a bit of humour which adds a nice touch. The imagery used sets the ominous mood for the story, and helps to make it a little scary at times as well as suspenseful. I like the fact that the author did not change the characters too much. They are already unique and that world is so well established I don't think I would have enjoyed reading something that had changed the Van Helsing world too much.


PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN

Memories_Better_Left_Forgotten
It is kind of strange to see Jack as vulnerable as he is in this fanfic. At the beginning he is a lot like he is in the movie, arrogant, obnoxious but endearing. However when he finds out that Elizabeth is dead he goes into this mode of depression which I don't think suits him. Maybe it is the fact that in this fanfic he is in love with Elizabeth, something which I don't really agree should happen. The bit at the beginning with the lyrics from Lady Antebellum's Need You Now song made me giggle. It just did not go with the period the story is set in. it ruined the mood of the story for me.


ZOMBIELAND

ZOMBIES
The first chapter of this was hilarious! I loved the wit and sarcasim of the main character. However the whole story was a bit disjointed, as if after the first part the authors could not be bothered anymore and just wrote babble. I didn't really get a sense of who the main character is. He just seems like a funny guy who likes to kill not just zombies but anyone who even remotely annoys him. I think the piece could have had a lot of potential if the writers could be bothered to develop a story, not just create random scenarios where the main character blasts everyone. It seemed at the beginning to echo the feel of the Zombieland movie but then fell short.

Vicky Goes To The Cinema

Little Britain is a favourite comedy of mine, so this persons fan fic didnt disappoint. I found it very funny and found it similar to the comdey of the show. Some spelling errors did weaken the skit and the use of the word 'claimed' used by Vicky didn't match the intellect of her character. But despite the above points, I thought it was great and think the author has done a good job.


Lou and Andy go to Summer Bay

This Fan Fic is a crossover of Little Britain and Home and Away. I thought the idea of this was great, and think the mix of narrative and dialogue was good. Especially since the author mentioned he or she was only 11 years old. Also the mix of a skit comedy show, and a soap opera is a good idea, since your mixing stock characters that never change with soap opera characters that change dramatically from week to week. This contrast is evident when at the end Andy says his usual line "I dont like it" and points at a hated character from Home and Away.


The End: Present Day

I really enjoyed this Fan Fic for the language and storyline. I havn't heard of this character Godric before but think its quite remarkable to have been alive for 2000 years. I think the story is very descriptive and found it very easy to understand. Also I found it quite engaging for such a short Fan Fic at 677 words. The author's use of language and descriptive words were did make the story better for me because it reminded me of the actual books the Southern Vampire Mysteries. All in all I thought it was really imaginative and nicely written.


Fifteen

I found this Fan Fic really cute and thought the storyline suited the characters. It seems to be written about what happens after the end of the season in which the Vicar marries her dream man. I would have liked there to be a few jokes thrown in here and there. But the author obviously liked the romantic aspect of the Vicar's character. The spelling and grammer seemed fine, althought I have a untrained eye. But in the end I found this Fan Fic to be really sweet.


Blessed

Another Vicar Of Dibley Fan Fic written again by the same author. I perfer this one as it has some visual comedic lines involving the Vicar and I found that as I read i could easily visualise Dawn French acting this out. Yet again the spelling and grammer was spot on and there was a great mix of dialogue and narrative that read similar to a book rather a television show script.


Jurassic Hogwarts-A Harry Potter/Jurassic Park Crossover

I was a little bit frightened when I came across this Fan Fic, but as a read the first few lines, I thought this may not be such a bad idea after all. It reads very much like Harry Potter series and takes alot of the Harry Potter series characters and plops them into Jurrasic Park. Although the author has made up some of their own Harry Potter 'type' characters, they sit well with the flow of the story. I think the author did a great job combining the two stories but it was very short and it was more of a tease then a story. It ends when they get to Jurassic Park and I think it would have been better if the author had continued into the park where the story could have progressed.


Time to Die: South Park Style

Disappointment and weirded out is one way to describe how i feel about this Fan Fic. I definately wasn't expecting what I read, and to be honest still don't quite understand what I read. It uses the South Park main characters, but doesn't follow the usual structure of an episode or usual comedy. I found it was disappointing and wonder what the author was thinking.


A Sad Dog Tale

This reproduction of CatDog is in one word tragic. Its not like the cartoon in any way but i did like how the author set out the lay out of his story. It was different and I think the person who wrote this much harbour alot of sympathy for Dogs in general. I thought it was interesting how the author decided to show how Dogs life would have been like without Cat, and evidentally seems depressing.


Nancy's Lament

I really enjoyed this poem about Nancy's love her her husband. A poem wasn't something i had expected but I think its a good medium for Fan Fiction. I think the author has done a great job analysing Nancy's inner most feelings.I think the use of rhyme and lanaguage was really spot on and think the author has a good insight into the characters of King of the Hill, Which isn't much of a deep cartoon show. There was no humor but I dont think it needed it.


TJ & Spinelli in Detention

I enjoyed this Fan Fic and was happy that it wasnt a lame attemp at a romance between the characters TJ and Spinelli as I generally find that type of Fan Fic to be creepy, especially when its based around cartoon characters. The authors use of structure reads similar to how I imagine Recess would have read, had it been a book. The storyline is something that could have been a episode of the television show and adds a little bit more indept analysis of the character TJ which I found to be refreshing. All in all I really enjoyed this Fan Fic and think the author did a great job.
